La Paz took Argentina apart 6-1 on 1 April 2009 and three of the goals were his, seven years after a season of 49 league goals that IFFHS rated the best in any top division in the world. He left Bolívar with 133 goals, second in the club's history, and added the 2002 Bolivian title, back-to-back Mexican championships with UNAM in the 2004 Clausura and Apertura, and 20 goals in 48 caps for Bolivia. He is Bolivia's record holder for both caps and goals, with 108 appearances and 31 goals, shared the 2008 Copa Libertadores scoring award with Salvador Cabañas, won the UEFA Cup with Shakhtar Donetsk in 2009 and the Ukrainian league in 2011, and took the Brazilian title with Cruzeiro in 2014.
