La Paz took Argentina apart 6-1 on 1 April 2009 and three of the goals were his, seven years after a season of 49 league goals that IFFHS rated the best in any top division in the world. He left Bolívar with 133 goals, second in the club's history, and added the 2002 Bolivian title, back-to-back Mexican championships with UNAM in the 2004 Clausura and Apertura, and 20 goals in 48 caps for Bolivia. He finished that tournament as runner-up to Brazil, won three Bolivian championships with Bolívar in 1992, 1994 and 1996, played at the 1994 World Cup, and collected 85 caps for Bolivia between 1991 and 2005.
