Three World Cups have produced exactly one Bolivian goal, and it is his: struck against Spain in Chicago on 27 June 1994 in a 3-1 defeat. The midfielder they called Platini won the Portuguese league with Benfica in 1991 and again with Boavista in 2001, took the Taça de Portugal in 1997, and scored in the 1997 Copa América final against Brazil on the way to Bolivia's runner-up finish, with 15 goals in 57 caps.
