On 11 October 2011 in Puerto La Cruz, his goal settled a 1-0 win over Argentina, the first time Venezuela had beaten them in a World Cup qualifier. He won the Copa Sudamericana with Independiente in 2017, reached the Europa League final and the Copa del Rey final with Athletic Bilbao in 2012, played 254 games for the club, and lifted the European Under-19 title with Spain in 2004.
