Born in West Berlin in July 1988, he won the 2009 European Under-21 title with a Germany team of Neuer, Hummels, Khedira and Özil before choosing Tunisia, whose shirt he first wore in 2012. Hertha BSC was his home for five seasons, 70 Bundesliga appearances and 14 goals, and he was part of the side that won the second division in 2012-13 to go straight back up; twelve Tunisia caps followed, plus Bundesliga spells at Hamburg, Frankfurt and Darmstadt.
