Deep in extra time of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final on 18 January 2026, Gueye struck to put Senegal ahead of hosts Morocco, a result CAF's appeal board later overturned in Morocco's favour. He won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal in 2021, made the 2025 team of the tournament with three goals, and started the group-stage win over Ecuador that carried Senegal into the 2022 World Cup last sixteen.
