Paraguay's right-back took their free kicks, and in Busan on 2 June 2002 he scored from one in the 55th minute against South Africa, one of five goals in 61 internationals. He won the Copa Libertadores with Grêmio in 1995 and Palmeiras in 1999, the Brazilian championship with Grêmio in 1996 and the Copa do Brasil with Palmeiras in 1998, and was picked in the South American Team of the Year eight years running from 1995.
