They called him the Chairman, and on 22 March 1980 at the National Stadium in Lagos he became the first Nigerian to lift the Africa Cup of Nations, after a 3-0 win over Algeria. Chukwu was named player of that tournament and picked in its best eleven, won the African Cup Winners' Cup with Enugu Rangers in 1977, and captained Nigeria across 54 caps between 1974 and 1981.
