On New Year's Day 2005 at The Valley he drove a free kick past Arsenal from thirty yards on the stroke of half time, a goal Charlton supporters voted the best of their season even though Arsenal won 3-1. A centre-back who took the set pieces, he was a Morocco runner-up at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, won the Coupe de France and the Intertoto Cup at Paris Saint-Germain, and played 53 times for his country.
