A 2020 poll of Belgian football named him the best African player their league has ever had, fair reward for four seasons in which Anderlecht's attack ran through him. He won the Belgian Golden Shoe three times, in 2006, 2009 and 2010, took two Belgian league titles and the 2008 cup with Anderlecht, added the Russian Cup with Lokomotiv Moscow and the UAE league with Al Jazira, and started all three of Morocco's matches at the 2018 World Cup.
