Number three on his back, he started all four of Morocco's matches at Mexico 1986: goalless against Poland, goalless against England, then 3-1 past Portugal to finish top of a World Cup group, which no African team had managed before. Forty-eight caps came between 1982 and 1989, with Mediterranean Games gold in 1983, fourth place at the 1986 and 1988 Nations Cups, and nine seasons at FAR Rabat, who won the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1985.
