Twenty years old in January 2015, he created Iraq's second goal in the Asian Cup quarter-final against Iran and was named man of the match in a tie Iraq won on penalties. That tournament also picked him as its best left-back; he has since won the 2023 Gulf Cup with Iraq, the 2013 AFC U-22 Championship, bronze at the 2014 Asian Games, and two Iraqi league titles with Al-Shorta.
