On 28 June 1991 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, in the opening match of the first Gold Cup, Bennett stepped up in the 28th minute and scored the tournament's first ever goal, a penalty in a 4-2 win over Canada. He took the 1995 Clausura in Argentina with San Lorenzo, played three Gold Cups for Honduras, scored 19 goals in 36 caps, and hit 44 in 111 games for Argentinos Juniors.
