San Siro, 8 June 1990, opening match of the World Cup: he met the cross with a downward header in the 67th minute, and Cameroon, finishing with nine men, beat the defending champions Argentina 1-0. That run took Cameroon to the quarter-finals, further than any African team had reached, and he also won the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations and played a Cameroon record 11 World Cup matches across three tournaments.
