Cameroon's whole bench ran onto the pitch at Franceville in February 2017 after Bassogog broke clear in stoppage time and finished the semi-final against Ghana at 2-0. He was voted the best player of that Africa Cup of Nations, won by beating Egypt in the final, and he added third place at the 2021 edition and the Chinese FA Cup with Shanghai Shenhua in 2023.
