Chile called him El Huaso, and in the 81st minute of the 2015 Copa América quarter-final in Santiago he finished off the move that put Uruguay out. Isla won that Copa América and the Centenario a year later, beating Argentina in both finals, took two Serie A titles at Juventus, the Brazilian championship with Flamengo in 2020, and passed 140 caps for Chile.
