Palmeiras had gone twelve years without a Paulista title when Valdivia scored in the 5-0 final win over Ponte Preta on 4 May 2008, a season that ended with him voted the competition's outstanding player. He won the 2015 Copa América with Chile as the tournament's leading assist maker, two Copa do Brasil titles in 2012 and 2015, two Chilean championships with Colo-Colo, and the Bola de Prata in 2007.
