Onstad ended the 2006 MLS Cup by smothering Jay Heaps's penalty in Frisco, settling the first final ever decided from the spot. He won three MLS Cups with San Jose in 2003 and Houston in 2006 and 2007, the 1999 US Open Cup with Rochester, the only team from outside MLS to take it since the league began, plus two Goalkeeper of the Year awards, 60 Canada caps and a place in the 2000 Gold Cup squad.
