Canada played him at centre forward in Pasadena on 18 January 2002 and he scored twice against Haiti, which is how a future Bundesliga centre-back ended up in the Gold Cup's Best XI. Third place at that Gold Cup, 63 caps and 11 goals for Canada with the armband in 27 of them, the 2. Bundesliga title and promotion with Köln in 2014, and induction into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame in 2019.
