Over eleven seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps he filled all eleven positions on the field, including forty-five minutes in goal, and left in 1984 with 312 NASL appearances, more than anyone else played in the league's history. The 1986 World Cup, Canada's only one, was the last of his 48 caps, and before it came the 1979 Soccer Bowl with Vancouver, the 1978 NASL North American Player of the Year award, and an Olympic quarter-final in 1984.
