Sixteen years separated his debut against Uruguay on 10 September 1989 from his last cap in 2005, and 33 of those 93 appearances came in World Cup qualifiers, the grind that no highlight reel keeps. Cristaldo played two matches at the 1994 World Cup, Bolivia's first since 1950, went through all five games of the run to the 1997 Copa América final at home, and won seven Bolivian league titles with Oriente Petrolero, Bolívar and The Strongest.
