Between 1995 and 2010 Fernández kept goal for more than twenty clubs in six countries, from Oriente Petrolero and Blooming to Córdoba in Spain, Veracruz in Mexico, New England Revolution and Universidad de Chile. Twenty-six Bolivia caps from 1998 to 2004 covered the 1999 Confederations Cup and two Copa Américas, and he won league titles with Blooming in 1998 and 1999, Bolívar in 2002 and 2009, Oriente Petrolero in 2010 and Deportivo Cali in Colombia in 2005.
