Few goalkeepers get on the scoresheet against Argentina, and he did it from a direct free kick in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup, the one goal he scored in 56 games for Venezuela. He gave four seasons and 142 league games to Deportivo Cali, played across Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and South Africa, and later coached Venezuela's under-20 side to the 2017 World Cup final. Nineteen years old at the 2017 under-20 World Cup, he made four saves against Uruguay in the semi-final and then stopped two penalties in the shootout to put Venezuela into a World Cup final for the first time. He finished that tournament as a runner-up with 506 minutes unbeaten, was voted Venezuela's best goalkeeper in 2016 and 2017, won the 2018 Superliga Colombiana with Millonarios and kept clean sheets against Peru and Brazil at the 2019 Copa América.
