His ninth goal of the 2019 Asian Cup arrived as a bicycle kick against Japan in the final on 1 February, one more than Ali Daei managed in 1996 and a tournament record that still stands. Ali left Abu Dhabi with the title, the Golden Boot and the Best Player award, added the 2021 Gold Cup Golden Boot, and passed Mansour Muftah as Qatar's all-time leading scorer in November 2023. Twenty-two goals in twelve matches in 1985-86 is why they called him The Fox, and why the Qatari league has named its top scorer award after him since 2013-14. Muftah scored 48 goals in 84 internationals and held Qatar's scoring record until 2023, finished as the league's leading marksman seven times, won the Arabian Golden Boot twice, and took 160 goals from 216 games for Al-Rayyan. Career record: 86 caps for Qatar; club career at Al-Rayyan, Al-Wakrah Sports Club, Al-Sailiya Sports Club.
