Beating three West Ham defenders before rolling the ball past Rob Green in 2009-10 won him Stoke's goal of the season for a third year running. He scored Stoke's first Premier League goal, a consolation in a 3-1 defeat at Bolton on the opening day of 2008-09, made the PFA Championship Team of the Year in 2007-08 as Stoke went up, and won more than 70 caps for Jamaica between 1999 and 2012. In November 2007 Gardner opened the scoring against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, his first club goal in almost five years and a rare flourish in 14 seasons and 342 league games at Bolton. He started all three group matches at France 98 as a 19-year-old, won the Caribbean Cup that year, and finished with 111 caps and nine goals for Jamaica.
