Ninety four league goals in 254 matches for Cagliari between 1999 and 2007 earned him the name Sardinia used, Pantera Nera, and 14 of those came in Serie A in his last season on the island. Honduras led the hosts in Valencia on 16 June 1982, Héctor Zelaya scoring inside eight minutes with Maradiaga captaining the midfield, and Spain needed a 65th-minute penalty to save the point.
