Pavón finished the 2007 Gold Cup as its leading scorer with five goals, one ahead of Landon Donovan, and was named in the team of the tournament. He remains Honduras's record scorer with 57 goals in 101 caps, played at the 2010 World Cup, won UNCAF titles in 1993 and 1995, four Honduran championships with Real España and the Mexican Clausura with Morelia in 2000. Honduras led the hosts in Valencia on 16 June 1982, Héctor Zelaya scoring inside eight minutes with Maradiaga captaining the midfield, and Spain needed a 65th-minute penalty to save the point.
