Against West Germany at the 1990 World Cup he wore the UAE captain's armband, an Al Nasr defender from Dubai leading his country out against the eventual champions. He won 33 caps and scored four goals for the national team, was named in the 1988 Asian Cup squad, and belongs to the generation that took the UAE to the only World Cup finals it has ever reached.
