On 5 September 2001 he scored against FR Yugoslavia in a 1-1 draw, part of the second-place finish that sent Slovenia to the play-off and their first World Cup. He played at both tournaments that generation reached, Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup, won five Slovenian championships with Olimpija and Maribor plus two cups, and took 38 caps before three seasons at JEF United in Japan.
