Bielefeld took him for a single season in 2004 and Buckley gave them 15 goals, the return that kept the club up and took him on to Borussia Dortmund. Bochum had signed him at 17, and the left winger went on to 73 caps and 10 goals for South Africa, the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2008 German Cup final with Dortmund.
