An overhead kick against Brazil in 1979 carried his name across the continent, and the left-footed winger opened the scoring in Asunción on 24 October as Paraguay beat the Brazilians 2-1 on the way to the final. Paraguay took the Copa América that year, their second, and Morel shared the tournament's scoring lead with four goals, adding a Paraguayan championship with Libertad in 1976.
