Aged twenty, he held the centre of the Rome derby that settled a cup final on 26 May 2013, the night Senad Lulic scored and Lazio beat Roma 1-0. Three months earlier he had played every minute of Nigeria's knockout run to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title, and to that he added the Coppa Italia from that derby, a Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor in 2020, 52 caps, and four starts at the 2014 World Cup.
