He took a painkilling injection at 3am before Morocco met Spain on 6 December 2022, then won all seven of his ground duels and pushed the tie to a shootout his team took 3-0. Morocco went on to become the first African team in a World Cup semi-final; his honours run from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to the 2024 FA Cup, won as the first Moroccan to do it, and the 2019-20 Belgian title with Club Brugge.
