Christian Vieri's elbow broke his nose in the 2002 round of 16 against Italy, so he played the rest of the tournament in a moulded mask that shifted and stung whenever he headed the ball. He won 105 caps between 1992 and 2004, held the back three with Hong Myung-bo and Choi Jin-cheul that carried Korea to fourth place on home soil, and took the 1997 FA Cup with Jeonnam and K League Best XI in 2002 and 2003.
