Seven goals went past him on his Italy debut in Budapest in 1924, a humiliation that cost him his place for a year and forged a goalkeeper who later went 934 minutes in Serie A without conceding. He captained Italy to the 1934 World Cup at home, first goalkeeper to lift the trophy, won five league titles with Juventus and Olympic bronze in 1928.
