At 1.65m he gave away height to almost every forward he marked, and the 2007 Asian Cup still ended with him named its best defender and placed in the All-Star XI. That tournament gave Iraq their first continental title, won in Jakarta against Saudi Arabia; he added the 2002 WAFF Championship, the Iraqi league of 2001-02, two Iraq FA Cups with Al-Talaba, and 94 caps between 2001 and 2012.
