Four of Iran's five goals against Bangladesh on 7 August 1984 were his, the start of a nine-goal run in nine days through that Asian Cup qualifying group. He went on to share top scorer honours at the finals in Singapore, took Asian Games gold in 1990, won the Asian Cup Winners' Cup with Persepolis in 1990-91 and the Hazfi Cup the following year, and scored 63 league goals in 124 games for the club.
