The morning after his father died in Guinea he played anyway, scored the winner against West Ham at Anfield in October 1999, and dropped to his knees in tears in front of the Anfield Road end. Marseille had taken him to the 1999 UEFA Cup final, Liverpool's supporters voted him into the 100 Players Who Shook The Kop, and Guinea got 27 goals in 57 caps, three of them in the group stage of the 2004 Nations Cup. Career record: 38 caps and 23 goals for Guinea; club career at AS Saint-Étienne, R.C. Lens, Olympique de Marseille.
