The terraces called him Bulldozer after his shot against Tunisia in Accra on 24 November 1963 tore clean through the net, the referee giving the goal only once the officials had inspected the damage. That was Ghana's first goal at a Cup of Nations and they won the tournament, with a runners-up medal in 1968 as its second-highest scorer, 20 goals in 26 caps, league titles at Asante Kotoko, and a late spell at the New York Cosmos.
