Against China in Gwangju on 4 June 2002 he broke a goalless hour, and Costa Rica had their first World Cup win in twelve years. He added a goal against Brazil nine days later and another against Poland in 2006, three World Cup goals that still stand as a Costa Rican record shared with Paulo Wanchope; 27 goals came in 93 caps, with three league titles, the 2005 CONCACAF Champions' Cup and the Cypriot championship at APOEL.
