Two draws had left the quarter-finals in doubt when Gradel struck from distance to beat Cameroon on 28 January 2015, and eleven days later Ivory Coast were champions of Africa. A second Nations Cup came at home nine years later, and he closed his Ivory Coast career on 113 caps and 18 goals, with the Coupe de la Ligue at Saint-Étienne in 2013, the Turkish Cup at Sivasspor in 2022 and a 17-goal Ligue 1 season behind him.
