Ivory Coast were a goal down to Cameroon in the 2006 Nations Cup quarter-final when Koné levelled it, and the shootout that followed ran to 12-11 before the Elephants went through. He left that tournament a runner-up, won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de la Ligue with Marseille in 2010, three championships with ASEC Mimosas, and was Ligue 2 top scorer with Lorient in 2004-05 before being voted Ivorian Player of the Year in 2008.
