At 23 he lined up as one of three Marseille centre backs in the UEFA Cup final at Ullevi on 19 May 2004, held Valencia until a penalty in first-half stoppage time, and lost 2-0. Runner-up in that final and at the 2006 Cup of Nations, an Intertoto Cup in 2005, 48 caps, and a place at centre back for Ivory Coast's first two World Cup matches, against Argentina and the Netherlands in June 2006.
