On 16 June 2010 he scored the only goal against Honduras, Chile's first World Cup win since 1962, and four years later added an injury-time third against Australia, which makes him the only Chilean to score at two World Cups. He won the Copa América in 2015 and 2016, playing all 120 minutes of both finals against Argentina, took the 2011 League Cup with Birmingham and the 2013 FA Cup with Wigan, and retired on 109 caps.
