At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles he played every minute Canada had and scored three times, including the equaliser that dragged Brazil into extra time and penalties in the quarter-final. He helped Canada reach its first World Cup and faced the Soviet Union at Mexico 86, scored twice against Guatemala in the April 1985 qualifier, and retired holding the national record with 19 goals in 55 caps.
