
Three goals down at half time in the 2000 NSL grand final, Chipperfield scored on 56 minutes, Wollongong drew level by the 89th and won the shootout, and he walked off Subiaco Oval with the Joe Marston Medal as best on ground. Basel then kept him for eleven years and 486 games, seven Swiss titles and six cups, and he started all four Australian matches at the 2006 World Cup.
