On 12 September 1995 he scored against Liverpool in the UEFA Cup for Alania Vladikavkaz, one of 210 goals across a career that took him from Soviet football to Samara and back to Tashkent. Gold at the 1994 Asian Games, where Uzbekistan beat China 4-2 in the Hiroshima final and he was named Asia's best midfielder, heads a record of 67 caps and 31 goals, later followed by three Uzbek titles as Bunyodkor's coach.
