A goal down at Camp Nou on the final day of the 2013/14 season, Godín rose to a corner in the 49th minute and headed the equaliser that gave Atlético Madrid their first league title in 18 years. His trophy list opens with Uruguay's 2011 Copa América, then La Liga in 2014, the Europa League in 2012 and 2018, two UEFA Super Cups, the 2013 Copa del Rey and two Champions League finals reached with Atlético. When Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in Montevideo on 30 July 1930, he was the man handed the Jules Rimet trophy, the first captain in history to hold it. El Gran Mariscal captained the sides that took Olympic gold in 1924 and 1928 and that 1930 World Cup, won four South American Championships in 1923, 1924, 1926 and 1935, and was voted the best player of the 1930 tournament.
