Two minutes into the second half in Garoua on 23 January 2022, Msakni struck the only goal of the last-16 tie and Nigeria were out of the Africa Cup of Nations. The 2011 CAF Champions League with Espérance, where he was the tournament's second-highest scorer, four Tunisian league titles, five Qatar Stars League titles with Lekhwiya and Al-Duhail, 104 caps and 23 goals for Tunisia, and Tunisian Footballer of the Year in 2012 and 2017. The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final turned on Baya's goal after twenty minutes, and Tunisia beat Zambia 4-2 to reach the final. He was named in the Team of the Tournament that year, took a runners-up medal from the final against South Africa, won the African Cup Winners' Cup with Étoile du Sahel, was twice Tunisian Footballer of the Year, and scored six goals in eight qualifiers to send Tunisia to the 2002 World Cup.
