With Nigeria ahead in the 2023 final in Abidjan, Kessié met Adingra's corner unmarked at the back post in the 62nd minute and headed the equaliser, and Sébastien Haller won it later. He won the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil that night, having already taken Serie A with Milan in 2022 and La Liga with Barcelona in 2023, with the Asian Champions League following at Al-Ahli. Four minutes into stoppage time against Algeria on 1 February 2015, he took Junior Tallo's pass and finished for 3-1, and three days later he scored again as Côte d'Ivoire beat DR Congo to reach the final. That tournament ended with the Africa Cup of Nations title, and four years earlier he had helped Lille to the first Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double in the club's history.
